Make a daisy chain at Chartwell

The wide open space of Kedleston's parkland is a great spot for outdoor adventures for youth and community groups, pre school and home educating families.

Just a few miles out of Derby city centre, the 800 acres of parkland surrounding Kedleston Hall offer year round opportunities for outdoor experiences.


Activities for Scouts and youth groups

A variety of our most popular evening sessions are listed below, but if you have any specific activities in mind which aren’t listed then please get in contact. Activities will be tailored bearing in mind the age range and number in the group.

Bat Walks/ Nocturnal Animal Walks

Take a guided walk with bat detectors to discover some of the night time residents of the park. Availability of dates will depend upon your groups session time and when this coincides with dusk.

Stream dipping and minibeasting

Discover the invertebrates of Kedleston, on land and underwater.

Explore the Park whilst using a map to search for different points on our permanent orienteering course.

Bushcraft/Survival skills

Possible activities include: Fire lighting; Shelter building; Cordage; Knots and lashing; Water purification; Wild food; Tree and Wildlife ID; Tracking.

Natural and heritage crafts

Possible activities include: Natural dyes and printing; yarn making or felting; willow weaving; coppice crafts.

Home Educating families

Join us for our monthly Monday session designed for home educating families in Derbyshire. Each month the activities and experiences will vary, all aimed at children over 5 years old.

Activities may include practical conservation tasks, wildlife watching, and making the most of the seasonal highlights in the 800 acres of parkland.

Pre School Play

Just for under 5s, these monthly outdoor play sessions  include a  range of craft, stories, games, adventures and are designed to introduce outdoor learning and environments to young children.
