Into the Wild - Children's Book Festival

Children's Book Festival at Leith Hill Place

Head 'Into the Wild' at the beginning of the summer holidays for a fun-filled day of books, storytelling and hands-on activities. School's out, so let the serious fun begin. Come dressed as your favourite book character.

Meet your favourite authors, build your personal summer reading list, follow a trail, have your face painted, get creative and much more.  All in the beautiful setting of Leith Hill Place.

For younger readers (3+) we delve into the amazing 'Big Book of Bugs' with Yuval Zommer and you can join Melanie Williamson for 'The Great Fairytale Disaster' and 'The Wheels on the Bus'.

If you are over 5, become an astronaut with Louie Stowell in a fun, interactive session and then explore the fantastic world of Dickens with Mary Sebag-Montefiore (6+). Or why not learn to draw terrifying dragons with Sarah Courtauld (5+).

For older readers (8+) enjoy a madcap session of story-making with Jonathan Weil then step into the gothic world of Wild Boy, Rob Lloyd Jones' murder mystery (9+).

Enter the realm of magical Fairy Pony Island and create your own fairy pony character, or if you are over 7 learn to make beautiful pop-up cards with Jenny Hilbourne. Lots more activities going on around the house, including build your summer reading list, book reviews and storytelling.

Outside there will be a Beatrix Potter trail, facepainting, and outdoor activites with the authors of 'The Usborne Outdoors Book' and lots more.

One ticket price for the whole day of activities.  Author talks are limited in numbers and are first come, first served on the day.  We suggest you reserve your places on arrival.

Delicious sandwiches, drinks and home made tasty treats are available from our kitchen (payment by cash or cheque only), so please don't bring picnics.

Under 3's and accompanying parents go free and do not need a ticket.
