Sussex Wind Quintet concert
The Sussex Wind Quintet will be performing for the first time at Leith Hill Place on Saturday 22 September from 5:15-7pm.
The Sussex Wind Quintet consists of Alison Holman (bassoon, founder member), Clare Worth (oboe), Marion Peskett (flute), Brian Shilham (clarinet) and Chris Newport (horn). First formed in 1971, the quintet initially gave demonstrations and performances to school children across the county before establishing themselves in their own right. They fulfilled engagements at music clubs and festivals throughout the South East and London, including an anniversary concert of Poulenc’s music at the French Institute, very favourably received in the Daily Telegraph.
After a gap furthering their own careers, the quintet reformed in 2009, and has since given numerous performances including some for charitable causes. The present members are all principal players in the Sinfonia of Arun Orchestra.
The performance will include music from Elgar, Ravel, Grainger and Vaughan Williams. Tickets cost £15 per person and can be booked on 0344 249 1895. All tickets sales from this concert will contribute to keeping Leith Hill Place running.
