Morrigan Return to Leith Hill Place

The Morrigan Singers will perform at Leith Hill Place

Morrigan will be returning to Leith Hill Place this summer to perform informal music during the day on Friday 7 July followed by an evening performance of songs collected by the composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams. The songs will be presented in the original style as Vaughan Williams might have heard them, some with instrumental accompaniment.

Morrigan are a four-piece a cappella group from South London who have performed at many festivals including the Brandenburg Festival and the Lancaster Music Festival. In the folk world they have supported artists such as Martin Carthy and Martin Simpson. They have been praised for their “stunning harmonies” and bridge the classical and folk genres with their musical backgrounds. Morrigan have sung together since 2010.

They will perform their own arrangements of a selection of folk songs that were originally collected from around the country by composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams. Vaughan Williams collected songs all over England, including in Sussex, Herefordshire, Norfolk and Yorkshire.  Some of the songs in Morrigan’s performance were collected at Leith Hill Place itself from people who lived and worked in the vicinity. Morrigan will be able to explain the history behind the origins of the songs and where they were collected giving an insight into how Vaughan Williams developed them for his classical repertoire.

Morrigan previously performed at Leith Hill Place as part of our Christmas entertainment programme and sang their Vaughan Williams set here in May. They were very well received. We are now delighted to welcome them back.

The performances will be held in The Terrace Room at Leith Hill Place, which is on the ground floor. On Friday 7th July Morrigan will be performing short sessions in the afternoon for visitors to enjoy from 2:30-3:15pm & 4-4:45pm. These day time performances are free, but admission charges to the house will apply.

Please park in the Rhododendron Wood car park, from where there is a short walk through a field. We advise stout walking shoes and a torch for the evening performance. There are places to change your shoes at the house.

We also have 2 spaces for wheelchairs. Please let us know if you need to reserve a space. Disabled parking is available at the house.

On Friday 7 July the evening performance starts at 6pm and will end at 8pm. All tickets are £10. Booking is essential. Please call 0344 249 1895 to book.
