Royal College of Music Concert No 1: Alke Quartet and Professor Colin Lawson

Professor Colin Lawson is not only Director of the Royal College of Music, but also an eminent clarinettist who specialisies in period performances.
Described recently as 'a brilliant, absolutely world-class player' (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung) and ‘the doyen of period clarinettists’ (BBC Music Magazine), he has appeared as soloist in many international venues, including London's major concert halls and New York's Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.
He is accompanied by the stunning Alke Quartet: Soh-yon Kim - violin, Elise Harper - violin, Ben Harrison - viola, Karen French - cello. The programme is: Howells’ ‘Rhapsodic Quintet op 31’, Stanford’s ‘Fantasy no 2 in F major’ and Coleridge-Taylor’s ‘Clarinet Quintet in F-Sharp minor op 10’
The Alke Quartet are Park Lane Group Young Artists 2015/2016 and gave a recital at St John's Smith Square earlier this year as part of the prestigious PLG series. Other appearancesinclude St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Piccadilly, Bath’s Pump Room and the Barbican Centre. The Quartet are currently in residence at the Royal College of Music on the Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Course.
