Royal College of Music Concert No 4: Snowden-Sir Duo
Joo Yeon Sir and Laura Snowden make up this unusal duo of violin and guitar. The programme includes a specially commissioned arrangement of the'The Lark Ascending' by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Violin and guitar blend beautifully to produce a magical combination in the hands of these two talented young musicians.
They are both prize winners at numerous international competitions, and met as Scholars at the Royal College of Music. With backgrounds in composition as well as performance, the pair found they shared a common interest in playing their own transcriptions and compositions.
Described by Strad Magazine as performing with ‘oodles of personality’ at Wigmore Hall, Korean-born British violinist Joo Yeon Sir was also BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year.
Laura Snowden was selected by Julian Bream to give a recital at the Wigmore Hall in November 2015 ‘… a poignant, mesmerising show....held the Wigmore Hall rapt with a performance of unassuming poise and intensity' - The Guardian, 2015. Laura’s music has been played on BBC Radio 3 and premiered at Sadlers Wells, Deal Festival and London Guitar Festival.
Specially commissioned for this afternoon concert at Leith Hill Place, they will give the first performance of their arrangement of ‘The Lark Ascending’, supported by the Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust, and Chairman of the Trust, Hugh Cobbe, will give an introduction.
