February half-term in and around East Sussex

Half-term will soon be upon us and there are lots of ways to get kids outdoors and having fun in and around East Sussex. Follow the winter trail in the garden at Bateman's, or tick off your 50 things to do before you're 11 ¾ activities at Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Your visit this half-term will help us to care for our special places for years to come.

Bodiam Castle 

Never mind the Lords, discover more about the roles of women in medieval times. From the daily grind of the laundry maid to the pressures of being the Lady of the castle, life could be tough. Follow the trail and match the right name to the roles of the women who shaped Bodiam Castle.

Pick up a trail from Visitor Reception and find pictures of the Kipling children’s toys dotted around the garden. Learn about what made these toys so special in the fairy tale landscape. Then complete your visit by spotting the actual toys in the house. Runs daily during half-term, £2.50 per trail.

Scotney Castle

Meet the artists who have been inspired by Scotney on a new trail. Get creative afterwards and try some art for yourself. You can also join our rangers on an interactive estate walk and have a go at hedge planting. Daily during half-term, trail £2 per child.

Sissinghurst Castle Garden 

Half-term is a chance to pull on the wellies and get outside. Head down to the lakes to our 50 things area, where you can build a den or make a stick trail to help guide your fellow ramblers. Tuck into warming treats in the café after. Daily during half-term.

East Head, West Sussex

Coast and countryside 

The coast and countryside we look after in and around East Sussex lies waiting to be explored. Explore the wider estate at Bateman's or take in coastal vistas at Birling Gap. Tackle winding trails in the Cuckmere Valley or climb up Devil's Dyke. Wherever you choose, breathe in the fresh air and feel free this half-term.
