Festive fun on the South Downs

From visiting Father Christmas, to family fun and wreath making, bracing walks to blow away the cobwebs, and a seasonally decorated medieval hall house, there's something festive for everyone on the South Downs. Enjoy some handmade and crafty this year with a festive tree fancy workshop at Alfriston Clergy House, seasonal wreath making at Birling Gap and Saddlescombe Farm, and a musical wonderland weekend of festive sights and sounds at the Alfriston Village 'Deck the Halls' event.

A handmade Christmas at the Clergy House 

Get into the festive spirit by making your own decorations this year. Make your own Christmas decorations in this fun workshop. With help from Peter the gardener use natural materials to create traditional old-fashioned festive tree decorations cinnamon fancies and wooden stars.

Make a beautiful Christmas wreath for your front door using natural materials and festive fancies. Come along and indulge your Christmas creativity by creating a beautiful wreath from materials collected from the surrounding countryside, and add in some beautiful baubles.

The Clergy House at Christmas

Discover the Christmas through the ages at the Clergy House this year. See the hall dressed to celebrate Christmas in the middle ages, the parlour decked out in Tudor finery, and the newly refurbished reading room cosy and warm as an Edwardian Christmas.

Christmas wreath walk at Saddlescombe Farm

Take a festive walk and collect your holly and ivy. Return to historic Saddlescombe farm to make your very own Christmas decorations in our newly opened learning space. Log burning stove, mulled apple juice, mince pies and roast chestnuts will all be included.
