Late summer colour in Hampshire

The long summer holidays may be over, but warm days linger well into September. The crowds have gone and you can wander peacefully through tranquil gardens and countryside full of late summer colour. Hinton Ampner 

Dahlias are the star of the show at Hinton Ampner in late summer. There are thousands of blooms in pretty pastels and hot reds and oranges. Pop into the large walled garden to see swellling pumpkins and autumn fruits.

Mompesson’s secluded walled garden is a real sun trap, even in early autumn. You’ll find mouth-watering displays of orange and pink dahlias on display, and the large central lawn is a great place on which to relax and soak up the last of the summer rays. Borrow a picnic rug for tea and cake on the grass, courtesy of the garden tea-room.
