Spring is the perfect time to walk among blossoming apple trees and see ornamental cherries in bloom. One of nature’s show-stoppers, blossom creates a magical effect as it falls like snow onto the ground.

Acorn Bank, Cumbria 

In the spring, Acorn Bank’s main walled garden puts on a spectacular display of delicate blossom. The orchard has around 20 varieties of apple, including many heritage varieties. These are complemented by a magnificent Blakeney Red Perry Pear and Medlars.

Ardress House, County Armagh 

Nestled among the apple orchards of County Armagh, Ardress House will be celebrating the arrival of the blossom in May with a host of activities for all the family. Visit on selected days to enjoy orchard tours, local ciders and apple produce for sale, plus a special apple trail for the little ones.

Barrington Court, Somerset 

The gardens at Barrington Court are perfect for spotting signs of spring. The old cider orchards date back to the 19th century, and at this time of year the trees are covered in pink-tinged apple blossom, with frothy white cow parsley blooming in the grass underneath.

Beningbrough Hall, North Yorkshire 

More than 35 varieties of apples are grown in the walled garden at Beningbrough, which ensures a great blossom display in spring.

Brockhampton Estate, Herefordshire 

The Brockhampton Estate is home to 25 acres of Shropshire Prune damson trees. From mid-April to early May the orchards surrounding the medieval manor house come into flower and bloom with beautiful white blossom, making it one of the best times of year to visit.

Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire 

Located amid Clumber’s 3,800 historic acres, the beautiful Walled Kitchen Garden was built in 1772 to supply the Dukes of Newcastle with fruit and vegetables. It’s still full of edible produce to this day, including apple trees which are covered in pink and white blossom from late April.

Cotehele, Cornwall 

In the 19th century, paddle steamers would come upriver to see the Tamar Valley’s famous blossoming orchards. Today we grow over 120 varieties of apple in our new orchard at Cotehele, which puts on a great show of blossom in the spring.

Cragside’s Orchard House was built in the 1870s to provide fruit trees with shelter from the Northumberland climate. Today it houses everything from figs to peaches and pears, all of which are covered in blossom in spring and fill the air with beautiful fragrance.

The highlight on Llanerchaeron’s orchard is a particularly gnarled old apple tree, which is covered in delicate apple blossom during the spring months.

Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Kent  

Sissinghurst Castle Garden was developed by Vita Sackville-West and Sir Harold Nicolson around the surviving parts of an Elizabethan mansion. There are now two orchards here. One is a mixed ornamental garden orchard, and the other is a recently-planted traditional orchard which supplies the restaurant with fresh dessert and cooking apples.

Sizergh’s orchards are full of various types of fruit from apples to quince and damsons, all of which play a part in the annual blossom display.

The Vyne, Hampshire 

In April, the blossom comes thick and fast in the Vyne’s gardens and hedgerows. Wander beneath clouds of apple blossom in the orchard meadow, or see the Japanese cherry trees blooming in the Summerhouse Garden.

Wightwick Manor, West Midlands 

With gardens suitable for all the family, Wightwick's show of blossom starts blooming around the end of February. The orchard provides plenty of opportunity to picnic and relax.

Wimpole, Cambridgeshire 

The orchard at Wimpole contains a huge variety of fruit trees including apple, pear, apricot, plum, greengage, medlar and quince – all of which are used in the estate’s shop and restaurant. In spring they fill the air with the sweet fragrance of blossom – just the thing to lift your spirits after winter.
