Let us light up your day
The warm glow of candles heralds the beginning of the 2016 season here at Little Moreton Hall. From 13 to 21 February you are invited to join in a Candlemass Festival with the picturesque Great Hall and the tiny Chapel lit by dozens of candles.
Don’t worry candles are battery operated as real ones would be a fire risk to this timber-framed hall but we are rolling real candles so you can take a candle home. We are also making paper snowdrops, or ‘Candlemas Bells’ a big feature at this time of year for Tudors.
So join us to discover more about Candlemas from the Hall’s Tudor gentlemen and gentlewomen, Winters were hard in Tudor times and people had to manage fuel and food stocks carefully just to stay alive. An old rhyme runs: ‘A farmer should, on Candlemas Day, Have half his corn and half his hay.’
We will also be playing traditional games such as ‘Nine Men’s Morris’ or ‘Fox and Geese’ in the Great Hall and with spring on the horizon looking forward to an exciting new year at Little Moreton Hall with Tudor festivals and a contemporary art event later in the year.
