As spring wildlife and flowers awake from their winter hibernation, explore the wider estate at Longshaw over the Easter holidays and take in the sights, sounds and smells of spring with our family trails.
Nature is waking up after winter, which makes it the perfect time to discover the secret worlds of plants and animals with some outdoor activities. Remember to bring your 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ wallchart or pick one up from our Welcome Building in the main Woodcroft car park and see how many activities you can tick off over the spring months. Tick off number 50. Take a friend on a nature adventure with our Spring Detectives family trail and discover more about the wonderful world of wildlife at Longshaw during springtime.
The Spring Detectives trail runs from Saturday 28th March – Saturday 25th April, so pack a picnic, grab your walking boots and bring your family and friends to the Welcome Building where your journey of discovery begins. Visitors can pick up a trail for £1 from our friendly welcome staff and get ready to become a nature detective for the day. Your visit to the trail helps our rangers and volunteers to monitor wildlife like our returning visitors the pied flycatchers and helps our teams to create birdboxes and woodlands that help wildlife thrive. As spring colours continue to flourish and fields, meadows and woodlands are a hive of wildlife activity, join us at Longshaw for an adventure of the microscopic kind with our Buzzy trail. Tick off number 31. on your 50 Things wallchart and make friends with a bug as you explore our trail. Take a closer look at the buzzing, miniature world of the insects that make their home at Longshaw, from bees and butterflies that help to pollinate our crops and wildflowers, to minibeasts that help break down the soil and eat the dead stuff! Our Buzzy trail runs from Friday 22nd May – Sunday 7th June and visitors can pick up a trail for £1 from our Welcome Building. For more information please visit our What's On page.
Take the time to notice all the weird and wonderful ways of wildlife when you visit Longshaw and tune in your spring senses to reconnect with the nature all around you. Crouch down and take a closer look at the bugs on the ground or stand close to a tree and listen to all the different birdsongs in the tree canopy above you.
