Building Adventures at Lyme: Explorer Thomas Legh's Life in LEGO© bricks

Building adventures at Lyme in 2017

This summer have an adventure at Lyme and discover more about our fearless explorer Thomas Legh, as his travels are brought to life in LEGO© bricks. This unique exhibition begins on Saturday 22 July and runs until Sunday 3 September 2017, 10:30am - 4pm.

A journey in brick

Join us this summer at Lyme where you can discover all the exotic places that our adventurer Thomas explored whilst on his perilous journeys to the far reaches of Petra and Egypt, wonderfully constructed by LEGO© artists from Warren Elsmore. You will have the unique opportunity to see a bespoke LEGO© model of Lyme and also have the chance to let your imagination run wild and build your own creations in the beautiful gardens.

Warren Elsmore and his team of artists are creating models based on the amazing sights Thomas Legh, who inherited Lyme when he was just five, saw on his travels later in life. Thomas transformed Lyme during the Regency era, but he also grew up to be a fearless explorer – going further than any other European before him.

Through models constructed from LEGO© bricks the story of Thomas and his travels will be bought to life for younger visitors but as we have found the possibilities are endless (no matter what your age), when it comes to playing with LEGO© bricks and a good dose of imagination!

Fun with LEGO© = no age limit and endless possibilities!

Some of the models that you will encounter whilst exploring this exhibtion will be a boat like the one Thomas Legh travelled on, the pyramids of Egypt and a very special reconstruction of Lyme. You can also follow a trail in the house and gardens too, where you will discover some more LEGO© models. £1 per trail - please bring small change for this - many thanks.

A massive thank you to Andrew and Suzanne Bertenshaw for the truly amazing creations made out of LEGO© bricks and to Simon Mayoh for bringing the models to life around Lyme. Competition time!

With our special LEGO® exhibition fast approaching we are launching a competition with awesome prizes to be won!

Create a LEGO® scene inspired by Lyme, take a snap and post it on our Facebook page, through a Facebook message or on our Twitter site! Don't forget to leave your name and age.

You could make a scene of Crow Wood Playscape or the wildlife enjoying their habitats or you and your family tucking into some yummy cake on a picnic! How about something even trickier, like the Cage tower or the big lake in the garden?

If you haven’t got the LEGO® to make it with, send us a pic of a Lego style drawing and again post it on our Facebook page or our Twitter site! #lego #legolyme

The competition begins NOW and runs throughout the summer - so get creative! Winners will be announced over Facebook and Twitter.
