Look out for trouble at Gara Point
Standing on a rock outcrop high above the South West Coast Path, the coastguard lookout at Gara Point has fantastic views out to sea.
It was most likely built for the coastguards, who lived nearby in a terrace of cottages, now where the present Gara Rock apartments stand. Employed by the Admiralty in the 19th Century.
Their job was to thwart any illegal smuggling along the remote coastline and to watch for vessels in difficulty.
Take a moment to enjoy the views before heading to Cafe-Ode at Gara Rock for locally produced food.
