Spend a day with our Head Gardener, Neil Porteous at Mount Stewart. Our garden experiences are insightful and are a rare opportunity to get a glimpse of how we look after our historic gardens. We have two exciting experience days planned for 2016.

Border Design Masterclass – Saturday 13 August 2016

Join Head Gardener, Neil Porteous and Gardener, Lisa Risse-Robertson for a day of learning how to compose with plants. There are many different styles of planting at Mount Stewart, from the Jekyll-like ribbons of the Mairi Garden to the exuberance of the Italian Garden.

The day begins at 10.30am with introductions and an in depth explanation of the border design by our Head Gardener. Lunch is at 12.00pm and at 1.00pm we will begin to describe a straight forward method of composing with plants, using colour and planning for succession. Following tea at 2.30pm we will give you a chance to apply what you have learned by designing your own border! The event winds up at 4.30pm with a group photo. You will also receive a bag of iconic Mount Stewart plants to try out at home.
