Food for Life Catering Mark
This year we received the Soil Association’s Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark. The award recognises our commitment to providing seasonal, ethically-produced and sustainable food.
To achieve it we worked closely with the Soil Association. We looked at everything from our menus and our suppliers, to the way we prepare our food.
Our hard work has paid off as now 134 of our cafes, restaurants and tea rooms have achieved the Soil Association’s Catering Mark. Between them they are serving 14,800 freshly prepared meals each day made from environmentally sustainable and seasonal ingredients.
And that’s not all. You can be reassured that we know exactly how our food has been grown, raised or reared. That’s because we’ve been regionally inspected by the Soil Association and we’ve reviewed all of our suppliers.
We’re now teaming up with more of our tenant farmers than ever before. Tenants like Charles Spencer, farmer at Stourhead in Wiltshire who supplies us with 1.5 million free range eggs each year.
" Food and where it comes from is an incredibly important part of what we do"
As our head of food and beverage Matt Drew explains: ’Food and where it comes from is an incredibly important part of what we do. Not only because we have such a variety of special places for people to eat at but also because – together with 1,500 tenant farmers and producers – we care for 500,000 acres of farmland.’
We’re also continuing to work closely with the Soil Association. Over the next few years we’ll be improving our sourcing standards even more, and we’ll be looking to increase the number of our places certified by the Food for Life Catering Mark.
