Profile
Hannah - Volunteer Photographer

Last year Hannah spent her work experience at Penrhyn Castle. During which, her fondness and ability in photography shone. So much so that we have invited her back as a volunteer to lead a project to photograph the team at Penrhyn. But before that, we thought it might be nice to know a little bit more about her...

Why did you choose Penrhyn Castle to do your work experience last year?

I chose Penrhyn Castle for my work experience because I felt it would offer a wide range of different experiences that I wouldn't get from other more job specific environments.

How did you find your work experience?

I found my work experience very enjoyable and fun. All of the staff where so welcoming and helpful, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them. The tasks and activities that I did were varied and I got to see all aspects of the Castle. I was so sad when I had to leave at the end of the week as I felt it simply wasn't long enough.

" I so enjoyed my work experience, it was really nice to hear that what I did was of value to the Castle and that they would like to do more. What makes it even better, is that I am turning my hobby into a possible career path! "

Did it help influence your career path?

My work experience at Penrhyn Castle has lead me to reconsider my career options, as I enjoyed it so much and I felt so happy with the work and tasks I did. I felt as if it was something I could see myself doing and enjoying in the future.

What did you learn as a result of doing work experience?

Whilst working at Penrhyn Castle I learned how important working as a team is and how much time and consideration goes into everything that happens within the Castle.

What do you want to do in the future as a career?

In the future I'm still not completely sure what I would like to do, but I would definitely consider working with the National Trust.

How did you feel when we got back in touch to offer you the chance to volunteer on a project?

I felt really honoured and happy when I heard that they wanted me to come back to volunteer for them again. I so enjoyed my work experience, it was really nice to hear that what I did was of value to the Castle and that they would like to do more. What makes it even better, is that I am turning my hobby into a possible career path!

Would you recommend Penrhyn Castle as a place to volunteer or do work experience?

I would definitely recommend Penrhyn Castle as a place for work experience. It has really helped me to consider what type of career I would like to do in the future and it's given me valuable insight into possible career paths I had not been aware existed before.

What would you like to tell people about what you’ve done/going to do with the National Trust?

I feel privileged to be able to say that I completed my work experience with The National Trust and that I have been able to use my hobby of photography to create a possible career for myself. Volunteering for The National Trust for work experience has made me to want to volunteer again in the future and help in anyway I can. The fact I have been able to work with such an amazing team and make a difference makes me feel extremely privileged!
