Winter to Spring

Birds at Bann Estuary

After the snow and ice of the last couple of weeks the weather was altogether much kinder and more benign at National Trust Portstewart Strand in the last few days.

On Friday afternoon there was an abundance of birdlife to be seen on the Bann Estuary and dunes.  In addition to the common land based birds the waders and diving ducks were out in force.  Oystercatchers, Redshank, Sanderling, Ringed Plover, Curlew and even a solitary Black-tailed Godwit could be seen taking advantage of the receding  tide to refuel before the sun went down.  A little further out various species of duck were or view.  A quick scan revealed Mallard, Shelduck, Teal, Red-breasted Merganser, Widgeon and Goldeneye.

If you are interested in nature, watch this space for more pictures of the local wildlife as we move into spring and summer...... or better still, drop in for a visit and see the many colourful species for yourself.
