Portraits have hung on Powis’ walls of for hundreds of years, but we’ve never uncovered the clues they hold about the people in them…until now. Take a family audio tour and discover the secrets of some of Powis’ past residents - and think …what messages would you include if your portrait was to last for hundreds of years?

21st Century space hopper jousting

Take inspiration from the Jacobean miniature portrait of Edward Herbert, centrepiece of our House of Portraits exhibition, and become a 21st-century knight. Visit our jousting arena, choose a trusty space hopper steed and challenge your family and friends to test their bravery in a jousting tournament on the Great Lawn.

Get crafty at Powis

Visit the Orangery and design your own coat of arms – what will you choose to draw that represents you? In the Old Kitchen, make your own frame to hold a miniature portrait of yourself or your family and friends.

Family Garden Trail

Hunt high and low along the terraces and in the shadow of giant yew hedges to find the silhouettes of figures hidden around the garden. Who do you think they represent and what are they looking at? Use the chalk board next to each one to write down your thoughts.
