Charles and Catherine Spencer supply 2.6 million free range eggs to us each year

Charles Spencer and his family have been our tenants since 1972.  Along with his wife, Catherine, Charles runs Search Farm, a 200 acre farm in Stourton, Wiltshire.

In the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, Charles looks after 37,000 Bovine Brown hybrid hens on the farm.

The hens share grazing with Charles's dairy herd and are fed on home-grown wheat and beans, processed through the farm's own feed mill. The farm also meets RSPCA Assured standards for hen welfare and has the British Lion mark of quality for high standards in food safety.

That means that the hens Charles cares for are happy and healthy, and all the eggs they produce have free range status.

Eggs from National Trust tenant farmer, Charles Spencer

Last year, we chose Charles as our national egg supplier and he now supplies 2.6 million eggs to our cafes, restaurants and tea rooms across the country. And every one is used to make delicious, seasonal treats for you to try.

So every time you tuck into one of our world-famous scones, or take a bite of our chocolate hazelnut torte cake, you can be assured that they were made using sustainably produced, free-range eggs.
