Christmas at Scotney Castle

The Library fire place decorated for Christmas

This Christmas there is something for everyone at Scotney Castle from winter exhibitions, family festive trails, crowd free Christmas shopping and delicious Christmas lunches.

Woodland wonderland

This Christmas step into our woodland wonderland as we decorate the castle with natural decorations, with lots of them from our own estate. Our staff and volunteers work all year round to create handmade decorations and our ranger team created last years log Christmas tree which will return bigger and better this year.

If you are visiting with the kids then they can complete our family trail in the garden, make sure you stop off at the wishing tree on the first floor of the castle. Wrap up warm for a visit to our childrens play area which will be open all winter.

Inside the collection exhibition

When the mansion came into the Trust's care a decade ago, our first priority was to open the main rooms. SInce then, the team of staff and volunteers have been working behind the scenes to unlock the hidden archives and collection.

This winter throughout the ground floor of the house we will showcase the work that has been complted and share some of the many discoveries that have been made, including our top ten discoveries in ten years. Our exhibition will open on Saturday 4 November and runs until Sunday 4 February between 11am and 3pm.

There are plenty of options available in our tearoom, from light snacks, hot meals or just mice pies. We have got plenty of indoor seating and a cosy log burner to warm you up after your visit to the garden.
