Stories at Souter
Celebrate World Book Day with a new event for 2016. Young readers are invited to join characters from much loved books at Stories at Souter on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March.
In honour of World Book Day (Thursday 3 March), children of all ages can listen and join in as popular characters read aloud the stories they feature in. Themed activities will provide hands-on fun and everyone taking part is encouraged to come dressed as someone – or something - from their favourite book.
Find Little Red Riding Hood in the reading garden and join the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland as a special guest at his tea party. After enjoying Eric Carle’s world famous book for younger children, listeners can sample some of the food The Hungry Caterpillar eats along his way. Budding wizards can attend Hogwarts School, make a wand and learn a spell or two with Luna Lovegood from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Discover The Lighthouse Keeper of Ronda Armitage’s books and his cat Hamish sitting in his boat as they wait for an audience for tales of his adventures. Don't forget to keep an eye out for Where's Wally and the terrifying Miss Trunchbull from Roald Dahl's Matilda who will be making appearances throughout the day.
" We’re thrilled to be celebrating World Book Day this year with such a colourful new event. It’s so important to nurture a love of books and allow children’s imagination to thrive from a young age. We want to inspire that sense of magic and wonder with Stories at Souter. Families can discover stories and characters together as well as revisiting old favourites. I think staff and volunteers at the lighthouse are as excited about dressing up and getting into character as the children! "
Tickets are £5 each for a one hour pre-booked time slot between 11am and 4pm. For bookings and further information, please call 0191 5290909.
