Nest Fest at Springhill
Join us this February mid-term for some wintery fun! Learn everything you need to know to keep the birds happy this winter.
It may feel like the middle of winter, but the promise of spring is just around the corner. The white carpets of snowdrops are in full bloom at Springhill, while the Estate team are busy preparing nesting sites for our feathered friends.
To celebrate National Nest box Week, the National Trust at Springhill will be holding their annual Nest Fest; an event for anyone who loves getting outdoors and helping their local wildlife. It runs from Thursday 16 February until Sunday 19 February, 12- 5pm.
Find out all you need to know about how to help the birds in your own garden, make some tasty bird treats and snacks to take home and discover how different birds build their nests. Join in, over the weekend with the estate team as they take down last year’s nest boxes to reveal what has been nesting in them. Come along to discover how we tell who has been using our bird houses. Watch as they are cleaned, repaired and re-erected ready for birds that are beginning to pair up and looking for a place to nest this season.
The eagle eyed among will have fun collecting nesting materials on the ‘Nest Spotters Trail’ and helping build our giant bird’s nest, out in the beautiful woodlands. There will be craft activities to make and do for the little ones and a cosy nest corner where they can snuggle down and enjoy a story from our wise old owl. Bring your wellies to make the most of the natural play trail that runs through the estate, a great opportunity to tick off some ‘50 things to do before your 11 and ¾’s’.
Rest awhile with a hot drink and a light bite in the Barn Café, before browsing the gift shop and second hand book shop. National Trust handmade bird boxes will be available to purchase during Nest Fest.
