Midsummer garden celebration at Standen

Throughout June at Standen, we will be celebrating the glorious garden and the completion of the Garden Revival. Five years of work and a £0.5million investment, plus many hours of staff and volunteer work have transformed the garden back to how it looked in the 1920s, when Mrs Beale was in full charge of her outdoor domain. Garden Tour: The story of Mrs Beale’s garden

Mrs Beale loved her garden and our recent revival project has seen many of the original features restored, plants added, new areas opened up and views reinstated. Join a twice daily tour every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday in June to hear about the work that‘s taken place and how the family enjoyed their garden. Free, normal admission applies.

Friday focus...

Every Friday, we will also be focusing on a different aspect of the garden. Starting in half term with tractors and machinery, the garden team will be on hand twice a day at 11.30pm and 2.30pm to talk to visitors about tools, techniques, plants, or the revival work that’s taken place and the plants in those areas. Free, normal admission applies.

Make a wish boat craft activities

Children can join in making wish boats before setting them sail on the restored pond, a place the Beale grandchildren enjoyed taking a dip in high summer. Sat 3, 10, 17 & 24 June, 11am-3pm. £0.50 per child.

Head Gardener tour

Once the gates are closed to visitors, join the Head Gardener for a small group tour around the garden to hear the work that’s been undertaken so far, view notable historic plants and hear about the garden’s history. Midsummer photography workshop

Garden workshop: Designing your garden

Designing a garden from scratch involves considering the landscape, the shaping, the requirements, the style you wish to achieve. Join Standen’s Head Gardener, James, for a masterclass on these principles, using the garden at Standen as your backdrop. Mon 5 Jun, 10am-1pm. £20 per person including refreshments. Have you ever wondered about the dyeing properties of the plants that grow in your garden? Standen Revived - Mrs Beale’s global garden 

For those wishing to delve deeper into the history of the garden revival, this exhibition will look at the people and places that influenced Mrs Beale with the garden at Standen. Sat 6 May – Sun 3 Sept 11am-4pm. Free, normal admission applies.
