Talking all things Bake Off

The citrus drizzle cake at Sticklebarn

The nights are drawing in, the leaves on the trees are turning golden brown, the bunting is up and this can only mean one thing…The Great British Bake Off has returned to our screens!

This year Bake Off is back and bigger than ever, with exciting new challenges and technical bakes, exotic flavour combinations and the latest trends in the baking world.

For me, The Great British Bake Off is a celebration of sharing stories. Through the eyes of each baker we are able to experience different cultures, heritage and what ignites their passion for baking. This might be through their choice of ingredients and flavour combinations, or sharing a family recipe passed down through generations. Each baker has their own personality and takes pride in celebrating it through their inventions.

As the Baker at Sticklebarn I have the pleasure of baking bread, cakes and making desserts on a daily basis, however I’ve decided to bring the Bake Off to the Lake District and will be participating in a bake-along challenge to share my passion for baking here in Langdale. Each week I’ll be doing the same challenge as the Bakers, though thankfully from the comfort of the Sticklebarn kitchen as opposed to a tent in a field!

About a month ago I set up my own Instagram account (@stickle.baker ) as a space to share images of a ‘day in the life’ of a baker; since then I have taken photos and videos of the processes behind the baking and finished products such as our famous Langdale Gingerbread, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Vegan Citrus Drizzle Cake.

In participating in the Bake Off challenges each week, my aim is to celebrate our brilliant collection of National Trust recipes and the share stories behind them.

You will be able to follow my progress through my Instagram page, the Sticklebarn and the Langdales Facebook page and also my upcoming blog posts on the Sticklebarn and the Langdales NT web page.

If anyone would like to join me in this challenge please feel free to share your photos and videos on your place’s social media networks by using the following tags: #gbbo #bakealong

And so, after a hard-days work, make yourself a cup of tea and indulge in the autumnal past time that is The Great British Bake Off!
