Christmas at Tranmer House

Natural christmas decorations along a banner

Come and explore the beautiful Edwardian property, Tranmer House as it’s transformed for Christmas from Saturday 11 November.

In Old English, the translation of Winterselde is a ‘winter home/house’.

For us, this word conjures up glorious sunsets before the evenings draw in, cosying up by the fire with hot drinks and warm blankets, and spending quality time with loved ones. We’re inviting you to Sutton Hoo throughout this winter season to join us and make Tranmer House your home away from home.

With a combination of natural decorations that the Anglo-Saxons may have used within their own homes and some good old-fashioned 1930s favourites, what better place to bring the family.

Explore Mrs Pretty’s house and learn all about this amazing woman and how she and her family lived. Play an old-fashioned game or try and solve the mystery of who placed the graffiti…

Relax on the sofa and the arm chairs in front of the fireplace, as our special water-vapour fire merrily lights up the room and take the chance to relax in this fantastic setting at Christmas.
