The Sound Garden at The Firs
Whatever the weather you can make some noise in our outdoor sound garden. From ‘Three Blind Mice’ to ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ the dulcet and perhaps not so dulcet tones pervade the air around The Firs each day we are open.
Choose between the three large instruments that wind around the pagoda. We have the vertical xylophone, hammock xylophone and a metallic swirl to create thousands of tunes. We have the instruments just add your imagination.
Give each instrument a whirl or grab a few bandmates and wow the other visitors. Fun for all ages. Who knows could you be the next Edward Elgar?
Built in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and made out of recycled materials these wonderful wooden instruments not only decorate our garden but give the Firs the right atmosphere which may just inspire the next musical genius. Come and fill the air with music.
Using our specially crafted music makers (also known as golf balls on sticks) create your own tune and share it on our social media use #soundgarden.
We want to grow our musical garden over the next few years and if you have any ideas which instrument should join the original trio let us know, or join our team of volunteers who help us with all of our work here.
Coming soon for May half- term we are bringing Edwardian garden games back to the cottage garden, take a step back in time and use the garden as your playground just like the Elgar kids.
