Christmas at The Vyne 2018
From 1 December to 3 January, explore the ground floor of the house decorated for a Victorian Christmas. In the grounds, you can enjoy festive walks or complete a family trail inspired by A Christmas Carol. In the shop you can tick off some of your Christmas shopping and when you’ve had enough, you can refuel in the Brewhouse tea-room.
Christmas with The Vyne’s Victorian family
Beautifully decorated for the first time since The Vyne's roof project, explore the ground floor of the house for the magical splendour of a Victorian Christmas. Showcasing fully decorated rooms from 1 December to 3 January, Wiggett Chute welcomes you into his family home.
On entering the Palladian staircase hall, you’ll see bushy garlands twisting their way along the banisters. In various rooms, twinkling Christmas trees will drip with Victorian-style beads, cornucopias and baubles. Underneath, lovingly-wrapped presents will await Wiggett Chute’s ten excited children.
For an authentic seasonal experience from centuries past, you can step into the Tudor chapel. Here, 16th-century carved wooden choir stalls and Yule Tide garlands sit beneath celebrated stained glass windows.
Situated down a corridor from the chapel, our cosy second hand bookshop has a sofa and cushioned bay window seating where you can peruse a good read. Young visitors can grab a stool at a little table and enjoy some colouring in.
In this snug tea-room, see if you can grab the table by the wood burning stove. Serving light refreshments, here you can stoke yourself up with a hot drink and a bite to eat. Grown-ups can treat themselves to mulled wine and a mince pie.
Located next to the Brewhouse tea-room, you'll find a range of christmas gifts here. If you've been good, maybe you should even treat yourself to a little something.
