The Secret Life of Hedgehogs

Throughout half-term we will be celebrating the humble hedgehog; one of Britain’s most familiar wild mammals. 

Hedgehog trail

Walk a mile in a hedgehog’s shoes with our trail through the Orchard Garden. Follow the hedgehog tracks, forage for food and find out how many slugs you need to eat to survive hibernation over the winter months!

Critter Crafts

Head to the Orangery and get stuck in with some prickly crafts to take home with you at the end of the day.

Hedgehog Hotels

We’re looking for nature lovers to help us set up and camouflage five hedgehog hotels over the course of the week.

We’ll be placing these in quiet areas of the garden and parkland where foliage and food are in abundance!

Hedgehog Care and Rescue

Representatives from a local hedgehog charity will be bringing some of their rescues to the gardens at Tredegar House.

You’ll get the chance to see the hedgehogs up close and find out what to do if there is a hedgehog in your garden.

Please note, this activity is dependent on the charity having hedgehogs in their care at this time of year.

50 things to do before you’re 11¾

Explorer Backpacks

Head to the Garden Shelter and pick up an Explorer Backpack to start your own 50 things adventure this autumn.

We’ve highlighted the best 50 things activities to tick off here at Tredegar House and your backpack will have all the tools you need.

  • Dates: Every day until Sunday 5 November

  • Price: £5 deposit, fully refundable at the end of your visit.

Ranger-led Activities

On Tuesday and Thursday our team will be helping you tick off No. 13 Make a mud pie and No. 18 Create some wild art.

Sessions will run throughout the day on a first come, first served basis.

Pumpkin Carving

Brush up on your pumpkin-carving skills and get your spooky creation ready in time for Hallowe’en.

Pick your own pumpkin and we’ll provide you with all the tools you’ll need to create your masterpiece.

Toffee Apple Bar

One of the best things about autumn is the arrival or some serious comfort food. Sweet treats are no exception to this rule and this year we are introducing a DIY toffee apple bar to our October half-term activities.

Pick your apple and choose from a range of decorations to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Torchlight Tours

Enjoy an after-work pick-me-up in the Brewhouse Tearooms and join our historians on a tour of the mansion house after hours.
