Medieval Mayhem
Bring the whole family for a bumper May bank holiday weekend with an eclectic mix of May Day activities for everyone to enjoy.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
In the large marquee:
May Day celebrations were a popular Medieval festivity involving feasting, dancing, and games. Try on our costumes and dress as a Medieval princess, knight, artisan or peasant - or come along in your own ‘Medieval’ dress. Then use building blocks to create models of the castle and grounds, in collaboration with trained facilitator of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY from the University of Exeter.
In the Outer Bailey:
Have a go at Disco Maypole dancing with Lorna Rees from Gobbledygook Theatre for traditional maypole dancing with a modern twist. Enjoy garden games such as archery, welly wanging and giant Jenga. Capture the memories with a family photo at our beautiful flower selfie-station. Then relax on our traditional hay bales (or our chairs and tables) and take in stunning views of the Dorset countryside. Bring your own picnic ‘feast’ or visit our lovely tea-room.
On Sunday 4th May, over 70 local community singers from the Bridport and Dorchester Rock Choirs will be singing popular songs at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. This is a first for both the choir and the castle and we hope you will join us for a singalong.
