Expert-led walk: butterflies

Join local butterfly expert, Dr. Richard Harrington, on a guided walk as we search for butterfly species within the Ashridge Estate.

  • Booking essential

Ashridge Estate is a haven for butterflies, including rare species such as the Silver-Washed Fritillary and Duke of Burgundy.

With an expert by your side, this two-hour walk will take you in search of the many wonderful species that call this special place home. Along the way, you will learn all about butterflies and why Ashridge is particularly appealing to them. You’ll also discover why it is so important that we protect the Estate in order for future generations to continue admiring our summer wildlife. You could even use the time to contribute to the national Big Butterfly Count along the way!

Dr Richard Harrington is a professional entomologist with extensive knowledge of UK butterflies. He previously headed the world-famous Rothamsted Insect Survey in Harpenden, is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, and has written books on the subject. He is thrilled to share his knowledge with you and will be able to answer any burning butterfly questions you have along the way.

Tuesday 23 July, 10.30am-12.30pm. Meet at the Visitor Centre.
