- Suitability
Children are welcome with an adult, but sorry, no dogs on this occasion.
- Meeting point
Meet us near the carpark at the northern tip of the nature reserve (What3Words///seagulls.hiking.blur).
- What to bring and wear
Dress for the weather in comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Wellies or sturdy footwear are best. We’ll provide PPE and spades. Bring snacks, water, and lunch if you’re staying all day.
- Accessibility
Be prepared for steps, steep slopes, and uneven terrain. It may be muddy in places after wet weather, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
- Other
We’re planting native shrubs like hawthorn, sea buckthorn, blackthorn, and wild rose to create rich scrub habitat for birds and wildlife. These thickets will provide nectar in spring, berries in autumn, and nesting spots for species like blackbirds, linnets, and whitethroats. Taller scrub will also shelter migrating birds such as yellow-browed warblers and redstarts. Along the roadside, we’re planting a diverse hedge, including wild privet and field maple. Rather than a neatly trimmed hedge, it will grow naturally as a scrubby wildlife haven, offering year-round food and shelter.
