Reframing Calke: viewing platform

Discover a different view of Calke as part of the Reframing Calke project.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

With scaffolding up on the west and south front of the house, get a sneak peak of the work being completed on the viewing platform.

Climb the stairs to see the ASBC team repairing joinery on the windows and masonry on the walls using specialist heritage crafts.

You'll also have the chance to admire Calke's unique architecture up-close. The stonework on the columns and portico show a patchwork of repairs over centuries gone by.

As you soak up the view, imagine what it would have been like arriving home to the original front door on the first floor, which was accessed via two staircases either side of the portico.

The viewing platform is open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 3 November, subject to volunteer availability and weather conditions.
