Winter Folklore

Learn all about the folklore and mythology associated with winter in a new exhibition inside the Hall and in a trail around the gardens.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Follow the trail around the gardens and find out more about the folklore around snowdrops, Shrove Tuesday, birds and weather. Complete activities including skipping and bird watching.

Inside the Hall, discover a new exhibition that explores the traditions and folktales that surround the winter months, from Wassailing and the legend of Jack Frost to Gods of winter and weather superstitions.

The exhibition and trail are inspired by the magnificent painted staircase by Sir James Thornhill inside Hanbury Hall, which depict scenes from Greek mythology.

Please note, the Hall is open 11am -3pm on weekdays until Friday 9 February, and 10am-4pm on weekends. From Saturday 10 February the Hall will be open 10am - 4pm everyday.
