The Life of Elgar in words and music

Elgar may be England’s most famous composer. But what was he really like? This exciting production celebrates his life through his own rarely heard words and exclusive live performances of his music by the Veracini Ensemble.

Was Elgar the stereotypical patriotic character of his day, who wrote ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and ‘Nimrod’, or something much more than that?

Find out on 10 March in this fascinating production which includes live musical performances by the Veracini Ensemble, narration by Elgar expert Richard Westwood-Brookes and readings of Elgar’s own words to accompany the story.

Hear about Elgar’s desperate struggles to succeed while always believing he was judged second rate through being self taught and from a humble background; his heartbreak at lost love; the ‘demons’ which relentlessly tortured his mind; the vicious attacks he suffered from the academic establishment; the remarkable woman whose lifelong devotion and sacrifice finally made him the great composer he became; and the tragedy of her death leaving him so stunned that he never again completed a great work. A life that was certainly troubled to the very end.

Along with live music by the talented Veracini Ensemble this intimate event is one not to be missed.

Find out the truth about Elgar on 10 March at The Firs (Elgar’s Birthplace) Lower Broadheath, nr Worcester. Two performances: 11.30am and 2pm. Ticket prices: £8.
