Tall Tales Tree Trail

Discover a story trail through the East Wood this winter and uncover fascinating facts about some of the wonderful trees in the East Wood and the fantastical story that connects them.

Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan and his family, who lived at Wallington until 1958, loved trees and nature. For over a hundred years it was a family tradition to record the history of the woodland around the house at Wallington in ‘The Book of Trees’.

Our new story trail has been inspired by the unconventional Trevelyan family’s love of trees and shares fascinating true stories and fantastical tall tales about some of the trees you’ll encounter along the way.

Take a meandering journey through the East Wood to meet some of the impressive and unusual trees that grow there, along with a fairy-tale cast of characters, including a noble king and queen, a brave giant, a powerful wizard and fire-breathing dragons.

Look out for the story panels as you head to the walled garden - the first panel is in front of the house - and keep your eyes peeled for the dragons who will help to show you the way through the wood.
