Pupil takes part in a creative writing workshop at Wentworth Castle Gardens

Wentworth Castle Gardens is working in partnership with Barnsley Museums to deliver workshops as part of its Primary Schools Programme.

Creative writing & wellbeing workshop

We are really pleased that our Creative Writing workshop is running again, with an additional focus on wellbeing.

The workshop has been adapted to support the creative teaching of the Recovery Curriculum and comes with a detailed guidance pack and Covid-secure Risk Assessment.

Creative writing & wellbeing workshop

Pupils will be inspired by the beautiful landscapes and outdoor spaces of Wentworth Castle Gardens to recap various creative writing techniques and develop ideas for poems which can be finished back in the classroom. This 2-hour workshop will also include mindfulness activities, inspired by nature, to support your pupils’ social, emotional and mental health.

Supporting your pupils

To support pupils with additional learning needs before and during their visit, you might be interested in viewing our sensory story or borrowing an access backpack. We also have a tour guide system available to assist pupils with a hearing impairment.

Sensory Story

In collaboration with Access for All and Barnsley Museums, we have produced a sensory story of Wentworth Castle Gardens. This introduces the sensory experiences someone might expect on a visit to our site. Some of your pupils may find this a ‘safe’ way to familiarise themselves with the gardens before they visit.

Access backpacks

Please let us know if one of your pupils would like to borrow an access backpack for the workshop. The backpacks contain ear defenders, sunglasses, a tangle twister, a kaleidoscope, a colour mixing paddle and biodegradable wipes. We’ve designed them to support visitors with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or any other additional need as they visit Wentworth Castle Gardens.

Self-led learning visits
