Wimpole's new car park

Illustrative map of Wimpole

We've known for a while that our car park can become a little muddy and we struggle to cope with using it for all twelve months of the year, so we're going to move it from its current location.

As Wimpole becomes more and more popular, all year round, conservation and infrastructure issues are detracting from our visitors really enjoying their visit.

We've realised our car park capacity and location is no longer suitable, with large areas allocated for parking on grass, any wet weather can make large scale parking a real challenge.

What's changing?

Over the past few years, we've investigated many options for the current car park, both increasing hard standing areas and upgrading seasonal grass areas; investigated park and ride options and looked at alternative locations.

In conclusion, the best option for Wimpole is to move the current car park to a new location outside the designated parkland to include all-weather spaces as well as grassed seasonal areas to create better year-round parking facilities.

What happens next?

Plans have been approved by South Cambs District Council  for a new car park at Wimpole, over the next few months, pre construction archaeological excavations will take place on the site, with building work due later in the year.
