Eating at Winchester City Mill

Situated in the heart of the mill, the café at Winchester City Mill is an ideal spot for tucking into delicious baked products and a hot or cold drink while soaking up the atmosphere of the 1,000-year-old watermill. Our baked goods are freshly made here each day by our talented team, coffee is Fairtrade and 100% Arabica with notes of butterscotch and shortbread, with a changing selection of fresh lunch options available.

The café

The café provides the perfect spot to relax at any time of the day. The menu changes with the seasons so there is always something new to enjoy, from fresh deli salads and sandwiches in the summer to warming hotpots, soups and sourdough toasties in the winter. The majority of the menu is freshly made on site by our team of skilled bakers and cooks, making the most of seasonal ingredients and flavours.

Jude's ice cream

We are proud to serve Jude's ice cream, made locally in Hampshire by Britain's first carbon-negative ice cream company. There’s a range of delicious flavours to choose from, perfect for the warmer months or any time of the year.

Sustainability in the café

Winchester City Mill is working towards a more sustainable future. We use plastic-free compostable packaging that's produced ethically using less virgin material and creating less CO2. When you order a hot drink and bring your reusable cup, we'll give you 25p off as a thank-you for helping the environment.

All profits from the café go towards funding essential conservation work, so every time you eat or shop at Winchester City Mill, you're helping to look after this special place.

The Secret Island Garden at Winchester City Mill

Behind the back door of the mill, perched like a tiny venetian island on the River Itchen is our garden. A transformation has taken place to create a little tropical paradise in the heart of the city. Step away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy treats from the cafe in this tranquil space, as you listen to the flow of the water and look out for kingfishers and dragonflies.
