Christmas at Winchester City Mill
This Christmas explore our decorated historic working watermill. A place like no other, Winchester City Mill will be immersed in the theme of gingerbread. From a new family trail to ginger baked delights there is something for everyone. Historic milling and baking demonstrations are just a few of the traditional events you can see this Christmas season. We've got a traditional brass band and live carols too.
Christmas gingerbread family trail
Saturday 30 November – Tuesday 24 December, 10am – 3pm, donation per trail
Make some magical memories and immerse yourselves in our family trail this season. Pick up a trail booklet and search your way around our decorated Mill to find all of the clues. Help Mrs Claus to collect the treats from the gingerbread people for Santa Claus so that he can make his journey on Christmas Eve. Suitable for children aged 3 and above.
Alder Valley Brass band
Saturday 14 December, 12 pm – 3pm, donations
A brass band brings festive spirit unlike anything else. Alder Valley Brass will bring the cheery sounds of Christmas creating a wonderful festive atmosphere. Traditional festive music and everyone’s favourite carols fill this historic watermill. There will be mulled wine and mince pies made with our wholemeal flour to warm up with in the winter weather.
Christmas seasonal baking demonstrations
Saturday 14th December and Saturday 22 December, 11am – 3pm, free after normal admission
Step into our warming kitchen, smell the aroma of traditional baking and sample festive treats made with our stoneground flour produced by our millers. An abundance of tasty bakes will include mince pies, festive breads and all things ginger. Learn how to make seasonal bakes using our wholemeal flour for a unique twist this Christmas. If you feel inspired pick up some of our recipe cards to try out at home.
New Year’s Day flour milling
Wednesday 1 January 2020, 11am - 3pm
Welcome in the New Year and another year of history for City Mill. Watch how our volunteer millers produce stoneground wholemeal flour using the power of the River Itchen. You can also purchase our wholemeal flour and take home some of our inspiring recipe cards to bake some homemade treats of your own.

If you are looking for something edible we stock a range of local products including delicate honeys and tangy chutneys. Tastes of the festive season can also be found in our confectionery and beverages. Our traditional wholemeal flour is perfect for all of your baking needs this Christmas. Our accessories range includes bags and scarves patterned with designs unique to the National Trust. To complete your gifts, we sell luxury wrapping paper and Christmas cards to spread the Christmas cheer.
