Here we answer some of the frequently asked questions about our new gift cards:

Where can I buy National Trust gift cards?
Gift cards will be on sale at the majority of National Trust shops.

What value of National Trust gift cards can I buy?
£100 can be added to a single gift card. You can purchase a gift card in multiples of £5, £10 and £20 up to £100.

Where can I redeem (spend) my National Trust gift card?
National Trust gift cards can be redeemed at our shops, restaurants and admission points. The can also be used towards the cost of membership and holiday cottages.

What are the exclusions? What can’t I redeem my gift card against?
Gift cards cannot be used for online or telephone purchases except for telephone holiday cottage bookings. They are not valid against the purchase of additional gift cards, virtual gifts or original artworks. Gift cards cannot be accepted at certain on-site outlets which are not operated by the National Trust. Unfortunately, you're also not able to spend them on purchases made via our online shop.

Gift Cards can only be sold and redeemed at our places with Barclaycard PDQ machines - they can’t be used at properties without them. This is usually our very small properties which may not have a shop or restaurant. The main exception to this is Giant’s Causeway. National Trust Gift Cards are not sold and cannot be redeemed at Giant’s Causeway.

Can I redeem my gift card against National Trust membership?
Yes, although unfortunately this means that we can't claim Gift Aid on the value of the card used.

How can I use my gift card against National Trust Holiday Cottages bookings?
Gift cards can be accepted as part or full payment for Holiday Cottage stays.

Customers wishing to pay or part-pay for their Holiday Cottage stay with a gift card will need to book via the National Trust Holiday Cottages Contact Centre on 0844 800 2070, available Monday to Friday from 9am until 9pm, Saturday 9am until 7pm and Sunday and Bank Holidays 9am until 1pm.

Gift cards cannot be used as a payment method for online bookings on the Holiday Cottages website.

The agent who serves you will take the details of the gift card from you – please have the card or cards you wish to use to hand.

The cards will be processed over the phone and credit on the gift cards will be deducted during the process.

How do I top-up my gift card?
To top-up your National Trust gift card please visit a National Trust shop, as for purchase and redemption the shop will need to have a Barclaycard PDQ machine.

What if there isn’t enough credit on my gift card for my purchase?
If there isn’t enough credit on your gift card for your current purchase the shop assistant will request an additional payment method from you for the difference.

Do I get change if I buy something with a gift card?
You don’t get change if you buy something with a gift card. The correct amount will be taken from the credit on your gift card which you then keep with the remaining balance still available to you.

If I want to return an item I bought using a gift card what happens with the refund?
If you return an item which you bought using a gift card, the refund will be made as a credit to that gift card. If you don’t have that gift card any longer the refund will be made to you in the form of a new gift card.

How can I check my gift card balance?
If you are in store, the shop assistant can check your balance for you by swiping the card through the PDQ machine. If you are not in store you can use our website www.showmybalance.com. This site enables you to check the balance on the card if you enter the card number and the card’s PIN number.

How do I know the value of my gift card?
Your gift card would have had a receipt issued with it on purchase. If you no longer have this receipt and if you are in store, the shop assistant can check your card value for you by swiping the card through the PDQ machine. If you are not in store you can use the website www.showmybalance.com. This site enables you to check the balance on the card if you enter the card number and the card’s PIN number.

How do I find the card’s PIN number?
You will find the card’s PIN number on the back of the card on the right hand side near the middle of the card.

Can I cash in a gift card?
There is no cash alternative to a gift card – they cannot be exchanged for cash.

Is there an expiry date for my gift card?
Gift cards expire 24 months after purchase or the last top-up of the card.

I’ve spent my gift card. What do I do with it now?
You can either top-up your gift card with more credit at one of our shops or you can dispose of it responsibly.

What happens if I lose my gift card or it gets stolen or damaged?
You must treat a gift card as if it were cash. Unfortunately, the National Trust can't be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged cards and no refunds or compensation can be given for lost or stolen cards.

What should I do with my existing paper gift vouchers?
If you have our existing gift vouchers, they will be honoured up until the expiry date printed on them.
