Jacobean house with superb collections and gardens

This half-timbered Jacobean farmhouse, transformed by the de Rothschilds towards the end of the 19th century, now houses an exceptional collection of paintings, fine furniture and superb oriental porcelain.

The extensive gardens are an attractive mix of formal and natural, with specimen trees and shrubs and some unusual features.

7:30pm - in the cricket pavillion

The HandleBards - a bicycle-powered, 4-strong, all-male troupe of players – are coming to Ascott to perform A Midsummer Night's Dream. During their 2015 summer tour, the troupe will carry on just four bicycles all the necessary set, props, costumes and camping equipment to perform Shakespeare's fairy-filled frolic.

The HandleBards do Shakespeare differently - using bikes to power various surprises and contraptions on-stage, whilst playing all the parts in this wild 1930s indie-folk romp.
