A school trip to Beningbrough Hall and Gardens

Bringing history to life

We aim to excite and inspire young minds through hands-on activities, fun and exciting workshops and costumed interpretation. We believe adults and children learn best when their imaginations are captured and history is brought to life.

Our garden workshop invites children to have fun in the outdoors and learn about what grows around them. They can have a go at potting and learn about the challenges involved in growing your own food.

The World of Samuel Pepys

Discover the portraiture, furniture and customs of Pepys' day in an authentic eighteenth century setting, and  hear his opinions about everything from uncomfortable wigs to the great fire of London.

Making Faces

‘A picture paints a thousand words’, and in this session children use the National Portrait Gallery collection to become‘portrait detectives’ to shed light on some surprising stories behind the art.

Below Stairs

A Day in the life of a Victorian laundry maid at Beningbrough Hall

This is a fun introduction to life as a Victorian servant.  Children can test their skills through hands-on activities and discover the contrasts between the lives of those above and below stairs.

Our staff, parents and children really enjoyed their days out and it brought a little piece of Victorian history to life for us
