A natural pier with dramatic cliffs and Victorian fort

Brean Down is a wonderful location for a day out in Somerset. Enjoy relaxing on the beach at the foot of the Down, building sandcastles and visiting the Cove Café for a seaside treat.

Venture to the top of the Down and take the exhilarating 1.5 mile walk along Somerset’s greatest natural pier.

The Down stands 97m high and the views from the top are truly spectacular, looking out over the Bristol Channel towards south Wales and over the Somerset Levels.

Uncover the secrets of Brean Down as you discover the site of a Roman temple and explore the Palmerston Fort.

Big Beach Picnic

Come along on the 4 July and celebrate the coast with the whole family.

Bring your picnic and we'll provide the rest - we've got an artist's hub where you can have a go at creating your own souvenir, 50 Things activities, sandcastle building, ice-creams, face-painting and beach games.

You can buy delicious food and drink from the Cove Café and check out the newly refurbished shop. Event tickets are free and there's no need to book ahead, just turn up on the day.

Brean gets arty

We're working with a group of artists at Brean Down who will be creating art installations at the fort.

The artists, led by Joy and Donna, have been recording and responding to the stories of the people, the landscape and the buildings at Brean Down and hope to form a connection through art, to those who lived and worked at the fort and in the surrounding area. To help us really bring the place to life, visitors will enhance and contribute to the work on display during the exhibitions and the artists will also be running workshops at many of our events planned throughout the year.

The first stages of the project will be revealed at Brean Down during Somerset Art Week 3 - 18 October, with the culmination of the project to follow in 2016.
