- Cycle parking is available at Carding Mill Valley, close to the main visitor facilities. Carding Mill Valley sits at the foot of the Long Mynd in the Shropshire Hills and is accessible by bike from Church Stretton and surrounding villages. The area is popular with cyclists and offers scenic routes through rolling countryside, with views across the hills and valleys. The approach from Church Stretton is approximately 1 mile (1.6km) and follows local roads with some traffic. Routes from further afield include quiet country lanes, though cyclists should be aware that some sections are narrow and hilly. Please note that the Long Mynd itself is steep and challenging, with long climbs, exposed conditions and rough surfaces in places. Some tracks are bridleways or footpaths where cycling is restricted, so please follow local signage and respect access rules. Weather conditions can change quickly, and strong winds are common on the hill tops. Plan your route to Carding Mill Valley using a cycling journey planner via the by bicycle link below. About Carding Mill Valley on the Long Mynd
Covering as much as 2,000 hectares (4,942 acres) of heather-covered hills with stunning views of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Welsh hills, this is an important place for wildlife, geology and archaeology.
There are paths for walking, cycling and horse riding, you can even drive to the top of the hill to take in the views. In Carding Mill Valley there are excellent visitor facilities including a tea-room, toilets and car parking.
In Carding Mill Valley you can play in the stream, watch birds from the hide, pond dip and relax with a picnic; or you can simply use the Valley as your base for the day and head on up the hill for an adventure. You don't have to venture far out of the Valley to find your own piece of solitude on the Long Mynd.
