Cake display and the hot drinks selection at the Bothy tea-room

The Bothy serves imaginative, freshly made food, and is the inspiration of mother and daughter partnership Penny and Sam. Sam has been running the tea-room for the past six years, with her mother developing many of the recipes and assisting with cooking.

The Bothy came out top in a recent National Trust scoring for quality of food in Wales.

Life before scones

Summer afternoon with the sun shades up

The Bothy tea-room is located in a group of whitewashed barns where once upon a time the Colby Estate workers lived, cooked and slept.

Horses lived here

Tables in the former stables

You'll see reminders of when the Bothy was at the heart of a busy working estate, with horses used for hauling timber and coal...

Good food doesn't get any more local than this

Good food doesn't get any more local than this

Make sure you visit the Summerhill Farm Shop on Cwmrath Farm, one of the farms on the Colby Estate. They sell meat reared on the farm within sight and sound of the sea, and local produce and preserves. They also deliver.

We have a shop too

We also have a  shop at the Woodland Garden. Need a gift or souvenir?  We sell jams and biscuits packaged with images of Colby including the trompe l'oeil paintings in the gazebo in the Walled Garden.
