Cake display and the hot drinks selection at the Bothy tea-room

The Bothy serves imaginative, freshly made food, and is the inspiration of mother and daughter partnership Penny and Sam. Sam has been running the tea-room for the past six years, with her mother developing many of the recipes and assisting with cooking.

The Bothy came out top in a recent National Trust scoring for quality of food in Wales.

Life before scones

Summer afternoon with the sun shades up

The Bothy tea-room is located in a group of whitewashed barns where once upon a time the Colby Estate workers lived, cooked and slept.

Horses lived here

Tables in the former stables

You'll see reminders of when the Bothy was at the heart of a busy working estate, with horses used for hauling timber and coal...

Second-hand books

Bring us your books

We are always looking for second-hand books to replenish our little library area. Please could you bring any books to the main shop. All donations will be very much appreciated.

Contented cake eaters at the Bothy

The Bothy tea-room is a hidden gem of a tea-room with a great selection of unusual cakes and afternoon delights; quite often there is something new and tempting to try. The cream teas are a mouthwatering treat and there are some gluten free specials too. You will often catch the locals making repeat visits working their way through the scrumptious tea-time menu.

We have a shop too

We also have a  shop at the Woodland Garden. Need a gift or souvenir?  We sell jams and biscuits packaged with images of Colby including the trompe l'oeil paintings in the gazebo in the Walled Garden.
