A 1920s country retreat complete with luxuriant garden by the sea
Travel back in time to the Jazz Age at the country home of the D'Oyly Carte family.
You can lose yourself in the RHS accredited garden: viewpoints give enticing glimpses out to sea, paths weave through glades past tranquil ponds, and tender plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and New Zealand thrive in the moist and sheltered valley.
This most evocative of country homes, built in the Arts & Crafts style, is imbued with 1920s' elegance. A light, joyful atmosphere fills the rooms and music plays, echoing the family's Gilbert and Sullivan connections.
Glimpse life 'upstairs and downstairs' from the glamorous Saloon to the light and airy recently opened servants' rooms.
Award winning Coleton Fishacre
We are delighted to announce that Coleton Fishacre has received the bronze award at the 2014 Visit Devon Awards in the large visitor attraction of the year category. Coleton Fishacre has also recently won two silvers at the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards, for best visitor attraction and best tea room.
27-31 December, 11am-4pm, just £5 entry (free for National Trust members and under 5s)
Walk off that Christmas pudding at Coleton Fishacre between Christmas and New Year. Step back to the 1920s in the house, which is filled with 'upstairs downstairs' festivity, as the family's rooms are decorated luxuriously, and the servant's room is hung with streamers. The gardens are perfect for a winter walk, and the Café will be serving tasty treats.
