Habitat piles

Creature comforts

Creature comforts

Habitat piles are made of waste cut down from trees, bushes and plants. The idea is to build and fill the habitat pile, then the fungi breaks down the waste.

In winter the habitat piles house animals and amphibians such as newts, frogs, toads and hedgehogs. Later in spring look out for birds such as robins and blackbirds who build their nests inside.

Red squirrels

Visit the wildlife hide next to the formal garden where you may spot red squirrels. If you do see any red squirrels, please let our staff know.
