Working hard - school children getting to work in the kitchen

KS1 & 2: Step back in time at Dunham Massey

Meet Mrs Collins and her staff as you're put to work as Victorian servants below stairs. In the Victorian Experience programme - suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2 - children are put through their paces on a number of household tasks, including baking and laundry. Will their work be up to scratch?

Head outdoors and meet the Gamekeeper to learn about the lives of estate workers. Discover differences between life for children today and life in Victorian times. After learning about people who live and work in the park, will the class reveal the identity of a poacher?

Getting outdoors at Dunham Massey

Dunham Massey Park is an ideal place to explore natural habitats and to identify the interdependency of woodland habitats and native British wildlife.

As wildlife detectives, the children collect evidence and make observations about plants and animals in the park, based on their discoveries. The park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its deadwood ecology. The herd of fallow deer are also a great learning resource.

Studying a specific topic that you'd like us to help with?

Recently we've run a day looking at uses of water in the park and in 2012 created a programme for a class studying senses. We're always happy to discuss adapting the programme to support the class work you're doing, so if you're studying a particular topic and would like to chat about a visit please call us on 0161 941 4986.
