Formby asparagus in the dunes
Award-winning asparagus has been grown in Formby’s sand dunes by local farmers since the 1800s. Around 200 acres were levelled by hand to create the fields and 10 acres of the site are still used to grow asparagus today.
Formby asparagus is in season and available to buy locally until 21 June.

The Asparagus King
The Asparagus King
Jimmy Lowe was a local farmer who set up Pinetree Farm in the 1920s. Lowe went on to win first prize five times in the 1930s at the Evesham Asparagus Championship.
The landscape we look after here at Formby includes the former Pinetree Farm.

The Asparagus Trail
As part of the Formby Asparagus Project we are creating the Asparagus Trail to provide engagement with the stories of the asparagus growers and celebrate the unique landscape.
The trail is still in development but you can enjoy a walk through the Formby asparagus landscape.
